HSR Training in Mackay

Once your workers elect a Health and Safety Representative, that HSR is entitled to attend approved training, and you as the PCBU have to make it available. We deliver Worksafe Queensland approved HSR training in Mackay and across Central Queensland, at your workplace.

The two courses

• HSR initial course, 5 days. The full entitlement course covering the HSR role and powers, the WHS Act and Regulation, consultation, issue resolution, provisional improvement notices, the power to direct unsafe work to cease, and how to run an effective inspection.
• HSR refresher, 1 day. HSRs are entitled to one refresher day each year. It keeps them current with legislative change and sharp on the parts of the role they use least.

What it costs

• Full HSR course: $995 per person, minimum 6 people. Other providers charge $995 to $1,700.
• HSR refresher: $300 per person, minimum 4 people. Other providers charge $350 to $400.

All training is delivered face to face at your workplace, and on-site delivery within 50km of Mackay is included at no extra cost. Outside that radius we quote it custom. Delivering on site keeps your people on the job: you lose them for the time it takes to be deemed competent, not for a full day of travel.

Fewer people than the minimum? Ask anyway. The group minimum is what keeps the per-head price where it is, but we can look at an adjusted rate for smaller groups on a case by case basis.

Why it is worth doing properly

A trained HSR is the difference between issues getting raised and resolved on your site, and issues going straight to the regulator. The training gives your rep the confidence to work through a problem with management first, and gives your supervisors a clear understanding of what an HSR can and cannot direct. Both sides win from everyone knowing where the lines sit.

Do we have to pay for HSR training?

Under the WHS Act an elected HSR is entitled to attend approved training, and the PCBU pays the course costs and the time. Talk to us if you are unsure how that applies to your business.

Can you run it on our site?

Yes, and within 50km of Mackay there is no extra cost for it. Running on site means your reps are not travelling and you keep them close if something comes up.
